For the Golf players amongst you there are two courses within striking distance. Falmouth golf course is about 1 mile away and has wonderful views over the English channel. Budock Vean Golf and Country House Hotel is the other side of Mawnan Smith and is a Parkland course situated in a designated area of outstanding natural beauty overlooking the Helford River.
Falmouth is reputed to have the third largest and deepest natural harbour in the world. In 1540 Henry VIII built Pendennis Castle to defend the Carrick roads. On the opposite side of the harbour is St Mawes Castle. So the harbour was very secure.
Because of its close affinity to the sea it was decided to build the National Maritime Museum in Falmouth.
Falmouth today is still a busy port and it is possible to take a number of boat trips up and around the River Fal. Or go on a day fishing trip to catch your evening dinner! There are many restaurants and bars in Falmouth.
The Eden Project is within 40 mins.
